Gator Day Fall 2014: Frontiers in Computing Competition

The Department of Computer Science will host an exciting new Gator Day event next week on Tuesday, October 28, 2014.

Frontiers in Computing: A Writing and Speaking Competition with a Computational Twist

Location: Alden Hall 101

Time: 11:00 AM, October 28

Lead Presenters: Professor Gregory Kapfhammer and Contestants

Do you have a new idea in the area of computing? Are you already breaking new ground in a frontier of computation? Are you learning more about a new area of computer science and want to share what you have learned with others? If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, then you should enter this fun and rewarding competition! Along with submitting one paragraph that describes their idea, contestants are invited to give a five minute presentation explaining a chosen topic, using no more than five slides. Audience members will serve as judges to determine the winner of a $50 Amazon gift card. All students are invited to participate, either by giving a presentation or serving as a judge.

A departmental luncheon will follow the contest, and the winner will be announced when this session ends around 1:15 pm.

Please send an email with your intention to enter the competition to Professor Gregory Kapfhammer. Remember, you must bring slides and one paragraph describing your idea to the competition that starts at 11:00 am on October 28.
