Modular Programming and Overlay Structures

The Computer Science 112 class will host a visit and discussion with Frances Tsai, a former systems programmer for the IBM 360/370 operating system and later involved in routing, access points, voice, and video.  Frances will give the audience her perspective on the implementation and evaluation of data structures and algorithms in this discussion-based class session.

Alden Hall, Room 102 February 26, 2010 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM All are welcome to attend!

Description

How do you implement data structures and algorithms when processor and memory resources are constrained? In this presentation, I will answer this and other questions as I share my experiences as a systems programmer for the 360/370 operating system. After discussing topics such as I/O device mapping and memory management, I will address your questions about the challenges of developing real-world operating systems, routers, and access points.
