Synthetic Characters in an Imperfect World

With computers today, it is possible to create image representations that are more optically "perfect" than ever before. But what makes a character "realistic"? This talk will discuss related esthetic and scientific issues, and introduce the computer generated film "Ryan," directed by Chris Landreth at the National Film Board of Canada, winner of the 2004 Academy Award in Short Animation
