Is Virtual for Real? Virtualization for Modern Computer Systems

The Research in Computer Science Seminar Presents: Is Virtual for Real? Virtualization for Modern Computer Systems

by: Yuting Zhang

Abstract

Virtualization techniques have been adopted widely in modern computer systems. Virtual machine platforms provide better resource control, scalability, security and performance across various host hardware and operating systems. This talk introduces the basic concepts of virtualization, followed by a brief survey of several popular virtual machines used in industry and academia. We also discuss the benefits and challenges associated with virtualization. This talk concludes with an examination of potential research topics for undergraduates at Allegheny College.
