Summer Internships in software development

Fog Creek Software is a small but renowned software development company in New York City, founded by Joel Spolsky, of Joel on Software fame.

The summer internships pay $750 per week and include free housing, weekday lunches, round-trip airfare, and weekly cultural activities. In past summers:

  • One student wrote a VBScript to PHP compiler in Java, learning three programming languages and how to write a compiler, allowing for the delivery of Frog Creek software to Unix.
  • Another student implemented a complete Bayesian spam filter and email classifier.
  • A team of four interns designed, developed, and implemented a new product from the ground up: Fog Creek Copilot, which provides extremely easy-to-use remote desktop access over the Internet even when both parties are behind firewalls. The interns were responsible for all aspects of http://www.copilot.com, which already had paying customers by the end of the summer.
  • Last year's group built a wiki product, with a web based WYSIWYG editor complete with a full spell checker, and an estimates based scheduling feature including a flash charting tool. The marketing intern completed a full spec on one of our not-yet-released products, and created our new job board at http://jobs.joelonsoftware.com
  • Due to the small size of the company, interns have the opportunity to learn about development, testing, UI design, marketing, and business by working directly with a top-notch team.

Deadline for applications this year is February 1st, and we will be evaluated as they arrive.</p>

Applications should be emailed to jobs@fogcreek.com. More info is available on the website at http://www.fogcreek.com/Jobs/SummerIntern.html">http://www.fogcreek.com/Jobs/SummerIntern.html
